Traditional and Complementary medicine has been practiced in all countries in the world since time immemorial. With the advent of modern medicine it would have been thought that TCM would die a natural death.
This is further from the truth than it would be supposed and the fact is that TCM has made a strong comeback in the past 10 years. Herbal medicine which is a part of TCM is expected to reach almost RM10bil in 2009 and likely to grow 8% to 15% annually in line with the growing acceptance for herbal based natural phyto-medicine globally.
It is thus the policy of the Malaysian government not to check this flourishing health industry but to regulate it and make it safe and of the highest achievable standards for the general public.
To this purpose, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Science has established the TCM faculty in order to fill in the gap in education for TCM and at the same time fine tune and preserve our rich heritage of locally grown traditional medicine such as Traditional Malay Medicine while at the same time offering as Medical Science degrees popular Complementary therapies such as Homeopathy, Islamic Medicine, Unani medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
