Assalamualaikum w.b.t.
I am greatly honored to be given the chance to
address you on this very monumental day. We will witness
a historical landmark in the young lives of our beloved
college (CUCMS). This event marks the coming of age of
the CUCMS Student Council. In 2005, CUCMS was born, and
the first ever Student Council was formed as a medium to
connect the students, lecturers and staff in one body.
Well done to the previous Student Council for doing a
credible job in caring for the welfare of the students
and organizing extracurricular activities. They defied
the odds by banishing the norm that medical students
must always have books by their sides all the time. They
proved that medical students could still have fun and
perform in their studies. We had some interesting
events, and looking back, we couldn't have done it
without the Student Council.
Time flies by, and the Student Council of 05/07 have
been officially relieved of their responsibilities. It
is always said that all beginnings has their endings,
but it is not often that we hear people say the end is
just another beginning to a new story. We, the newly
elected Student Council of 07/08 vouch to carry the
responsibility to represent students at the college
level and continue the great work preceded by our
seniors. We will do so, and try to make significant
improvements to the things already in place.
Ladies and Gentlemen, teachers and friends,
Life is about connecting dots. The previous student
council; was one dot. And you can never go anywhere with
just one dot on a paper. So, with the induction of the
new Student Council, we are putting another dot on the
paper. But still, when you connect the two dots, it gets
you nowhere. You can never connect the dots looking
forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.
Maybe, 10 or 20 years from now, we can look back on our
achievements and tell ourselves how the dots have
connected to form a big picture. Right now, we are still
in the early stages of our own history, so we just have
to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the
future.
I would like to thank the members of the previous
Student Council for laying the foundation for us to work
on. You made it easy for us.
We, the members of Student Council, promise to
fulfill all our duties to the best of our
abilities. We will strive to promote school spirit
and good citizenship among the students of CUCMS.
With God's grace, we will not forget our obligations to
our school, the teachers, and our fellow students.
Furthermore, we will challenge all the students to
develop their own talents and to share them whenever and
wherever possible. We promise always to uphold and
defend our motto: "Nurturing the Passion to Care”.
