How do you imagine the
taste of victory? – sweetness of triumph
and jubilation, spiced up by determination,
sacrifice and rush of adrenaline in dire
situations – an intoxicating concoction that
accelerates the rate and volume of secretion from
the salivary glands (of those who aspire).
|
The aspiration is proven well and
alive among CUCMS students where they strived in
the Battle of Wits and Words – The 2nd Ibnu Sina
Inter-University Debate, Universiti Malaya on the
8th of January, 2008. This championship was
targeted at medical students because the motions
debated were issues that pertain to the medical
field, largely, ethics. CUCMS Team 1 emerged
champion. On top of that, the Best Speaker Award
was won by Looi Mun Choon, (better known as 'MC'
at CUCMS). What makes it special is that this was
our maiden attempt. |
CUCMS sent two teams to the
debate championship. Each team consisted of 2
speakers and one reserve who helped during
preparation. |

Both teams paved their ways to
the Finals. Team 1 secured second place, after
International Medical University (IMU), in the
First Round to qualify for the Finals. In the
Second Round CUCMS Team 2 made it by winning
second place, after University Malaya (UM) Team 2.
The Second Round was more heated as all the teams
were desperate in their last chance to qualify for
the Finals. |
The Finals saw CUCMS Team 1 as
the Opening Government and Team 2, Closing
Government. IMU was Opening Opposition while UM
Team 2 was Closing Opposition. |
With hard work, cleverly
manipulated points, sharp wits and powerful
questions CUCMS Team I clearly strengthened their
weak points in the First Round to emerge champion. |
